Is it possible to use Diaton tonometer to measure IOP for the patients with chronic conjunctivitis?

The main advantage of the Diaton tonometer is the possibility to perform IOP-measurement through the eyelid. This “know-how” technology allows to obtain IOP results without direct contact to the mucous membrane. Hence, IOP measurement with Diaton is possible for patients not only with chronic conjunctivitis, but also with erosions, several corneal injuries, corneal apoptosis of epithelium and large pterygium.

Is it possible use Diaton tonometer for children?

Yes, children’s IOP can be measured easily with Diaton. Clinical study of transpalpebral scleral Diaton tonometer application in Children Clinical Hospital (Moscow, Russia Federation) demonstrated its high accuracy for “small” patients. The recommended child’s age for IOP measuring with Diaton tonometer is starting from 7 years old. In addition, Diaton tonometer can be used in patients with mobility problems.

What are the advantages of Diaton tonometer for the doctor ?

For the doctor:

accurate tonometry result, wide clinical possibilities, image of modern doctor and health center, quickness and efficiency (no disposables, IOP measurement takes several seconds), spectrum service spreading.

What are the advantages to the patient?

For the patient:

quickness, safety, no risk of infection, no anesthesia drops

comfort, no necessity to take off contact lenses, painless..

How valid are IOP- date by Diaton ?

The validity of IOP- measurement results by Diaton is achieved by exact following of the measuring methodology and good practical skill in using the tonometer.

What can doctors of general practice (GPs) do together with Diaton Tonometer ?

- Making control examinations of human population, including patients of the aged group to reduce the risk of the possible irreversible implications of long-term rise of the intraocular pressure (IOP).

- Save IOP monitoring of patients at risk of eye diseases development - IOP deviation from the normal level can be the reason of variety of many chronic diseases.

Why do general medical practitioner's (GPs) need Diaton Tonometer?

Only joint efforts of the family doctor and ophthalmologist can make a prognosis for ophthalmologic diseases and save vision for many years!

Constant communicating with patients, having information about their possible genetic predisposition and paying special attention to the patients from high risk group GPs have a real opportunity to detect rise of intraocular pressure controlling ophthalmotonus using an easy and available method – of TRANSPALPEBRAL DIATON TONOMETERY!

Is the measurement with Diaton painless ?

IOP-Measurement with Diaton tonometer is painless. There is ONLY temporal contact of the lightweight rod with the anterior rib of the upper lid.

Can tonometer Diaton be used after eye surgery ?

Yes, in fact, this is the one amongst numerous advantages of Diaton tonometry compared to corneal-based tonometery. The IOP measurement with Diaton tonometer is possible in most complicated medical cases:

- in patients with cornea pathology and allergy to anesthetics,

- after laser refractive surgeries,

- after keratoplasty

Why do we need to obtain up to six measurements?

In some cases for an accurate IOP evaluation and to neglect an effect caused by an operator the Diaton tonometer (internal-software) require up to six measurements.

Does Diaton tonometer require calibration?

No, Diaton tonometer is supplied with the carry-case that contain testing/calibration device. The testing/calibration can be performed by the operator him/herself. Diaton tonometer is considered functional, if received calibration digital measuring result is in the rang of (20 ± 2) mm Hg, and there are no "L" or "Н" symbols in the display. In addition, the testing device is recommended to use for getting the minimum experience in the device's correct placing, observance of the vertical position and the tonometer's confidant handling. This initial practice is important for accurate IOP measurement.

Is it possible to damage the eyes with Diaton ?

Operator cannot cause any damage to the patient’s eyes if the instruction given in operational manual is followed precisely. The influence zone of the tonometer's rod is the part of the sclera corresponding to corona ciliaris. Hence, there is no direct contact to the cornea.

Diaton tonometer allows, without damage to the patient, to determine intraocular pressure and to prevent an ocular hypertension as a side effect of prescribed drugs.

What are the contraindications ?

It is not possible to perform IOP measurement with Diaton tonometer for patients with a pathology or mechanical damage of the upper eyelid.

Is it necessary to remove contact lenses?

No, the patients don’t have to remove contact lenses during IOP measurement procedure with Diaton tonometer. This is one among numerous advantages of Diaton tonometry that is able to detect patient’s IOP without direct contact with the eye mucous membrane.

Is it possible to use Diaton when the eyes are infected?

Yes, IOP measurement with Diaton is possible for patients with eyelids inflammation such as conjunctivitis etc, cost by infection or allergic reaction. In addition Diaton tonometry can be applied for patients with erosions, several corneal injuries, corneal apoptosis of epithelium and with large pterygium.
